Tanami Exhaust Fans – Granites (NT) 2009

Subcontracting to Sandvik, Peak Industrial Electrical was commissioned to design and engineer the electrical installation and control system for exhaust fans at an underground mine for Newcrest Mining’s Tanami Operations.

The complex project scope included the design, supply and installation for four 1250kW VSD controlled ventilation fans along with the required power and control cabling, control system equipment, and two purpose built MCC rooms.

The rooms provided an additional challenge with the VSD’s in each room generating about 120kW of heat load along with an outside ambient temperature of 500C that required a separate air conditioning plant be built adjacent to each MCC room.

The project also required the fan’s PLC control to provide a fully automated system and interface to the mine’s existing Scada system.
